Neopets... NFTs...

Neopets... NFTs...
Keith Kurson

Neopets launched in 1999, and are trying to come back to relevance. Obviously, the way to do that in 2021 is to launch a series of NFTs, which will have 20,500 "unique" virtual pets generated by an algorithm. My assumption is that they'll be based on how you can dress up pets, and maybe just some random combination of the most popular cash shop items?

My question is: who is this for? I don't expect that most Neopets players in 2021 even know what a NFT is, or are interested in them. And anyone who is buying NFTs might have a nostalgic pull toward Neopets, but how far does that really extend? Is this to make a cash grab, or to try to build interest in... something?
